CGRC Chair Steve Richard Encourages GRC Professionals to Explore Committee’s Robust 2019/2020 Agenda

Financial Executives International’s (FEI) Committee on Governance, Risk and Compliance (CGRC) provides a forum for FEI members to stay informed about the latest developments and trends in corporate governance, enterprise risk management (ERM) and compliance. CGRC also offers members valuable networking opportunities and the ability to share experiences, ideas and best practices with industry and functional peers.

The committee fulfills its mission through regular conference call meetings and two “in-person” meetings each year. CGRC Chair Steve Richard, Senior Vice President, Chief Risk Officer at Becton Dickinson, has set a robust agenda for the current fiscal year and invites all FEI members involved in governance, risk and compliance to join the committee.

This year’s program agenda will provide a deep dive into a variety of timely GRC issues. The committee’s fall meetings, held in September, October and November, will focus on various ways risk management professionals can connect ERM to strategy. Connecting risk with strategy is the holy grail for risk executives and the CGRC will explore what is working and what is not working across industries.

The CGRC’s winter/early spring meetings (December-April) will explore how to advance governance, risk and compliance objectives through the strategic use of technology. Topics to be discussed include technology trends and their applicability to the GRC community, understanding the big data roadmap, and stories of successes and challenges with GRC applications.

Late spring meetings held in May and June will be devoted to the theme of cybersecurity and organizational readiness through the GRC program. Specific topics will include cybersecurity trends and GRC considerations such as simulations and wargaming as strategic tools in cybersecurity preparedness.

Each meeting will feature presentations by and interactive discussions with industry experts and subject matter professionals. CGRC members also engage in lively roundtable discussions on current challenges, trends and best practices.

All FEI members in a GRC role are encouraged to consider joining the group to benefit from the knowledge that is shared and the valuable peer networking opportunities that committee meetings provide.  CGRC will meet next via FEI’s conference call/webinar platform on Wednesday, September 11 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. EDT. The meeting will feature a presentation on the COSO ERM Framework and the integration of strategy with performance by Lillian Borsa, Risk Partner at PwC.  To attend the meeting or for more information on the Committee on Governance, Risk and Compliance, please contact Brian Cove, the FEI CGRC staff liaison at [email protected] or 973.765.1092.
