Germany to Cut Ties With Accounting Watchdog After Wirecard Scandal

The German government plans to terminate its contract with the country's accounting watchdog, the Financial Reporting Enforcement Panel (FREP), after payments company Wirecard filed for insolvency last week in one of Germany's biggest fraud scandals. The scandal has put the spotlight on Germany's financial regulator BaFin, whose investigations into misconduct partly rely on FREP and is facing accusations of failing to supervise the financial technology company.

Chuck E. Cheese Parent Files for Bankruptcy

Chuck E. Cheese’s parent company, CEC Entertainment, has announced it is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, citing the “financial strain” of mass restaurant closures due to the coronavirus pandemic. “The Chapter 11 process will allow us to strengthen our financial structure as we recover from what has undoubtedly been the most challenging event in our company’s history," David McKillips, the chief executive of CEC, said in the statement.

Don’t worry about saying the wrong thing—ask. At the same time, don’t make assumptions. Listen for cues. Finally, make your commitment visible to others.
