From Color-blind to Color-conscious: Advancing Inclusion in Finance
Join FEI Chicago and Cindu Thomas-George for our 2nd installment in the Uncomfortable Conversations about Race series. In this session we will learn about the colorblind ideology and why it has been detrimental and unproductive in moving racial equality forward inside and outside of the workplace. This session features a 30 minute presentation by Professor Thomas-George and 45 minutes in small group breakouts.
Cindu Thomas-George is the Founder and Principal Trainer of Shakti Diversity and Equity Training. As a diversity and inclusion practitioner, she designs and facilitates professional development experiences that promote equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and intercultural competence. Cindu is also an award winning tenured professor of Communication Studies specializing in Intercultural Communication, Public Speaking, and Online Learning at the College of Lake County. In her sixteen plus years of working as a diversity educator, she has developed a mastery of creating and facilitating impactful learning experiences that equip employees with the knowledge and skills necessary to be advocates of diversity and agents of change who are empowered to work towards cultivating an inclusive and equitable organizational culture.

My Block, My Hood, My City provides underprivileged youth with an awareness of the world and opportunities beyond their neighborhood. We take students on explorations focused on STEM, Arts & Culture, Citizenry & Volunteerism, Health, Community Development, Culinary Arts, and Entrepreneurism.
In collaboration with the City of Chicago, The Chicago Community Trust and One Chicago Fund have launched the Together Now fund to raise funds from Chicago’s philanthropies, corporations, and individuals and from other federal and City funds, all of which will be granted to entities that will in turn make grants to small businesses across the City.
Woods Fund is a bold grantmaking foundation that finds-and-funds projects that draw on the power of communities to fight the brutality of structural racism and economic injustice. It promotes social, economic, and racial justice through the support of community organizing and public policy advocacy that engages people that are most impacted.
