Nicole Thorne Jenkins

Nicole Thorne Jenkins is the John A. Griffin Dean of the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. A Certified Public Accountant, Jenkins is an expert in financial reporting failures, share repurchases, and the effect of social networks on performance outcomes. As an award-winning educator, she has focused her instructional experience on financial reporting topics in both executive education and graduate and undergraduate programs. As a result of her ability to make both accounting and finance topics accessible, Jenkins is frequently called upon to instruct corporate professionals on related complex topics.

 

Prior to the University of Virginia, Jenkins served as the Von Allmen Endowed Chair of Accountancy and Vice Dean in the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky. She spent the previous 10 years as a member of the faculties at Washington University in St. Louis and Vanderbilt University, after having started her professional career in the audit department at PwC in Washington, D.C.

 

Jenkins received her PhD in Accounting from the University of Iowa, where she serves as a current member of the Tippie College of Business Advisory Board and is a past member of Tippie’s Professional Accounting Council.

 

She completed her undergraduate work in Accounting and Finance at Drexel University and holds a Certificate in Leadership from Stanford University. Jenkins serves on the Board of Governors of Beta Gamma Sigma, on the board of Strada Education Network, and on the board of the Montpelier Foundation (Treasurer), and is an accomplished consultant and expert witness in matters related to financial reporting, valuation, and estimation of damages. She has also served as a CREF Trustee since 2023.
